SEO Manager Job Description
Location
Cardiff, Wales
Salary
£50,000 per year
We are looking for an experienced and driven SEO Manager to join our growing digital marketing team in Cardiff. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who genuinely understands search engine optimisation beyond the usual buzzwords and recycled LinkedIn nonsense. We want someone who lives and breathes SEO, understands how rankings actually work, and knows how to build long-term organic visibility that delivers real business growth.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical SEO knowledge, excellent on-page optimisation skills, and, most importantly, proven experience in link building and authority development. You must understand what separates a quality backlink from complete rubbish and know how to build sustainable SEO campaigns that improve rankings, traffic, and conversions.
This role suits somebody commercially minded who enjoys strategy, problem solving, competitor analysis, and staying ahead of constant Google algorithm updates. You will be managing SEO campaigns across a variety of industries and working closely with content creators, web developers, and account managers to deliver measurable results.
If your idea of SEO is stuffing keywords into pages and buying spammy links from Fiverr, this probably is not the role for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement successful SEO strategies for a range of clients and websites
- Carry out detailed SEO audits and provide actionable recommendations
- Manage technical SEO improvements including crawlability, indexing, site speed, structured data, and internal linking
- Lead on-page SEO optimisation including metadata, keyword targeting, content structure, and user experience improvements
- Plan and execute high-quality link building campaigns
- Conduct backlink audits and identify toxic or low-quality links
- Build relationships with publishers, bloggers, journalists, and website owners for outreach opportunities
- Analyse competitor backlink profiles and identify new authority-building opportunities
- Monitor keyword rankings, organic traffic, and SEO performance metrics
- Produce monthly SEO reports with clear insights and recommendations
- Work alongside developers to ensure websites follow SEO best practices
- Stay updated with Google algorithm changes and industry developments
- Assist with local SEO campaigns and Google Business Profile optimisation
- Support content teams with SEO-focused content planning and keyword research
- Identify opportunities for organic traffic growth across existing and new websites
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an SEO-focused role
- Strong understanding of technical SEO principles
- Proven experience running successful link building campaigns
- Excellent knowledge of backlink analysis and outreach strategies
- Experience using SEO tools such as Ahrefs, SEMrush, Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics
- Strong understanding of keyword research and search intent
- Experience improving domain authority and organic rankings
- Good understanding of content optimisation and SEO copywriting principles
- Familiarity with WordPress and common CMS platforms
- Ability to analyse SEO data and turn it into practical strategies
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Desirable Skills
- Experience with digital PR campaigns
- Knowledge of local SEO strategies
- Basic HTML and CSS understanding
- Experience working within an agency environment
- Familiarity with AI-driven SEO tools and automation
- Understanding of conversion rate optimisation
- Experience with ecommerce SEO
What We’re Looking For
We want someone proactive, switched on, and commercially aware. Somebody who understands that SEO is not just about rankings — it is about generating leads, revenue, and business growth.
You should be confident discussing strategy with clients and capable of explaining SEO in simple terms without sounding like a robot reading from a marketing textbook.
A genuine passion for SEO is important. Search changes constantly, so curiosity and adaptability matter just as much as experience.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary of £50,000
- Hybrid working opportunities
- Friendly and relaxed working environment
- Career progression opportunities
- Ongoing SEO training and development
- Access to premium SEO tools and software
- Pension scheme
- Paid holidays
- Modern Cardiff office location
- Supportive and ambitious team culture
