SEO Specialist, Technical

smartdept. is searching for a Technical SEO Specialist for a growth and transformation consultancy serving ecommerce, retail, and DTC brands. This is a fully remote, ongoing freelance contract opportunity.

You’ll make sure ecommerce sites can be found, crawled, and loaded properly, working closely with developers and a senior growth lead.

What You’ll Do:

• Run technical SEO audits and prioritize fixes
• Resolve crawling, indexing, redirect, and broken page issues
• Improve site speed and mobile performance
• Set up and maintain schema markup
• Protect traffic during site redesigns and platform migrations
• Work with developers to implement and QA fixes

What You’ll Need:

• Hands-on technical SEO experience on ecommerce or large websites
• Experience with Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, and PageSpeed Insights
• Working knowledge of site architecture, redirects, and schema
• Experience supporting a site migration or redesign
• Comfort using AI tools to work faster
• Clear, reliable communication with technical and non-technical teams

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Shopify or headless ecommerce platforms
• Basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Google Tag Manager
• Experience optimizing for AI search results
