Part-Time Virtual Assistant — SEO Citations & Directory Placement (Remote)

Company: The Legal Marketing Company Type: Part-time, contract, 100% remote Hours: 20-25 hours per week, flexible — some overlap with U.S. Eastern business hours required Compensation: $20–$30 per hour Very Flexible Hours

About the role

We're a digital marketing agency that works exclusively with law firms. A large part of how our clients win local search is unglamorous, detail-heavy work: getting each firm's name, address, and phone number listed accurately and consistently across hundreds of business directories, legal-specific directories, and data aggregators.

We're looking for a virtual assistant who is genuinely good at that work — someone who can build citations cleanly the first time, keep meticulous records, and flag problems rather than guess. This is a production role with real ownership over a recurring deliverable, not a one-off project.

What you'll be doing

  • Manually build and submit business listings across general directories (Yelp, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Foursquare, YP, etc.) and legal-niche directories (Avvo, Justia, FindLaw, Lawyers.com, Nolo, Super Lawyers, state and county bar directories)
  • Audit existing citations for NAP consistency and identify duplicates, outdated addresses, wrong phone numbers, and unclaimed listings
  • Claim and verify listings, including managing verification emails, phone/PIN verifications, and postcard follow-ups
  • Clean up and suppress duplicate listings
  • Support Google Business Profile housekeeping — category checks, service areas, hours, photo uploads, Q&A
  • Maintain a per-client citation tracker in Google Sheets: directory name, URL, login, submission date, status, live URL, verification method
  • Research new directory and association opportunities relevant to specific practice areas (personal injury, criminal defense, family law, estate planning) and geographies
  • Report progress weekly through our project board and raise blockers early

What we're looking for

Required

  • 1+ years of hands-on citation building and local SEO support work — please be ready to describe specific directories you've worked in
  • Solid understanding of NAP consistency and why it matters, plus what makes a citation actually count
  • Comfortable in Google Sheets and Google Docs, and organized enough to keep a tracker that someone else can pick up and understand
  • Reliable internet,a computer, a quiet work setup, and dependable availability week to week
  • Careful, detail-obsessed work style — a transposed digit in a phone number is a real problem in this role

Nice to have

  • Experience with U.S. law firm or other professional services clients
  • Familiarity with BrightLocal, Whitespark, Yext, or similar citation tools
  • Exposure to Semrush or Ahrefs (you don't need to run analysis; recognizing the data helps)
  • Experience with Monday.com or a comparable project management platform
  • Experience handling listings for multi-location or multi-attorney practices

Not required

  • You don't need to write blog content, run ads, or do technical SEO. If you can do those things, say so, but this role is focused on citations and directory work.
