Reports To: SEO Director

About Break The Web
Break The Web is a boutique SEO agency built for in-house marketing teams at ambitious eCommerce and DTC brands.
We help make SEO less annoying by bringing strategic thinking, clear communication, measurable progress, and real partnership to the brands we work with. We care more about client quality than client quantity, and we aim to build strong relationships with clients who trust us to think critically, communicate directly, and help their businesses grow.
We operate with transparency, high standards, entrepreneurial energy, and a healthy amount of personality. Our goal is to build the kind of agency where great people can do the best work of their careers.
About The Role
We are looking for a Senior SEO Strategist to help lead and evolve SEO strategy for ambitious eCommerce and DTC brands.
This is not a role for someone who simply wants to manage SEO accounts or inherit a playbook and follow it forever. We are looking for a strategic operator, trusted advisor, and high-ownership contributor who wants meaningful influence, visibility, and the opportunity to help shape the future of SEO at Break The Web.
The right person will be comfortable leading client strategy, communicating with executives, identifying opportunities proactively, improving internal systems, and helping elevate the team around them.
This role is ideal for someone who is deeply interested in where SEO, AI search, and organic visibility are heading — and wants a real voice in how an agency adapts, evolves, and continues to create value for clients.
What You’ll Be Doing
As Senior SEO Strategist, you will:
- Lead and evolve SEO strategy for eCommerce, DTC, and consumer-focused brands
- Build deep client trust and become a true strategic partner, not just another agency vendor
- Lead client communication, presentations, strategy calls, and executive-level conversations
- Create, prioritize, and defend SEO recommendations based on impact, business goals, and available resources
- Identify SEO opportunities proactively instead of waiting for direction
- Collaborate across SEO, Content, Digital PR, Operations, and Client Success teams
- Help improve workflows, SOPs, AI systems, reporting, deliverables, and operational efficiency across the agency
- Mentor, support, and elevate team members around you
- Help clients understand how SEO contributes to business growth, not just rankings or traffic
- Stay actively engaged with the future of search, including AI/LLM search visibility and changing user behavior
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a well-rounded SEO leader who is resourceful, proactive, meticulous, and comfortable operating with ownership.
You should be able to confidently walk into a room of executives, defend strategy objectively, communicate clearly, and build trust naturally. You should also be comfortable challenging assumptions, thinking critically, and explaining not just what should be done, but why it matters.
You should be comfortable discussing areas such as:
- eCommerce SEO
- On-page SEO
- Technical SEO
- Content strategy
- Digital PR and link building strategy
- AI/LLM search and visibility
- Marketing funnel strategy
- Google Search Console
- GA4 and revenue attribution
- Google Merchant Center
- Client buy-in
- Executive communication
- Project management
- Workflow improvement
Required Experience
To be successful in this role, you should bring:
- 4+ years of hands-on SEO experience, with strong on-page, content, technical, off-page, and analytical SEO foundations
- Strong eCommerce, DTC, or consumer-brand SEO experience, with measurable experience helping brands improve organic performance
- 2+ years of client interaction experience, with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and confidently in both written and verbal settings
- Experience creating, prioritizing, strategizing, and justifying SEO recommendations in a way that earns buy-in internally and externally
- Experience collaborating with development, creative, content, social, paid media, client success, or other cross-functional teams
- 1+ year of experience managing, mentoring, or helping guide team members toward stronger execution and better outcomes
- Strong fluency with industry-standard tools such as Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, Google Drive, or similar platforms
- Excellent organization, time management, attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and the professional-but-personal demeanor needed to earn trust quickly
You’ll Thrive Here If…
You will likely thrive at Break The Web if:
- You have a strong entrepreneurial spirit
- You naturally think three steps ahead
- You have your own side projects, websites, experiments, or things you publish
- You love improving systems and making things better
- You care about measurable business impact, not vanity metrics
- You are genuinely interested in where AI and search are heading
- You value quality client relationships over high account volume
- You want your work to matter
- You are comfortable owning outcomes, not just completing tasks
- You can challenge with care and communicate directly without being careless
This May Not Be The Right Fit If…
This role probably is not the right fit if:
- You need constant direction or handholding
- You prefer maintaining systems exactly as they are instead of improving them
- You say yes to everything instead of defending your perspective thoughtfully
- You rely on generic SEO best practices without critical thinking
- You avoid ownership when things go wrong
- You treat clients transactionally
- You are not interested in the future of search, AI, or how SEO is evolving
Our Core Values
Our values drive how we work as a team and how we show up for clients.
Own Every Outcome
We believe success requires everyone to own their role, their tasks, and their impact. We proactively solve issues and make sure the work comes together efficiently.
Aim To Excel
We believe growth comes from ambition, curiosity, and a willingness to push beyond comfort zones.
Follow The Why
We believe the best solutions come from creative, curious minds that think critically and look beyond surface-level answers.
Challenge With Care
We believe direct, clear, and honest communication matters — especially on a remote, multicultural team. We challenge thoughtfully while showing genuine care and respect.
See Opportunities Instead Of Problems
We believe optimism helps us collaborate better, assume the best, and look for win-win outcomes.
Growth Path
The right person will not just manage campaigns.
They will help shape systems, elevate client relationships, improve the agency operationally, and eventually grow into larger leadership responsibilities.
If your long-term goal is to become a strategic leader, operator, SEO Director, or broader leadership-level contributor, this role is designed to give you meaningful ownership and visibility.
Benefits + Perks
Break The Web offers:
- 100% remote work
- Competitive salary
- Remote-work stipend
- Truly unlimited paid time off, with a minimum of 20 days off
- U.S. holidays and extended holiday weekends
- Medical coverage contribution
- 401(k) contributions for U.S.-based employees
- Flexible start and end hours
- Work-life balance prioritization
- Professional development budget
- In-person industry conference budget
- Half or full Fridays off in the summer
- A culture filled with dad jokes, GIFs, casual conversations, nerdy passions, and animals
Interview Process
We try to keep the interview process straightforward, useful, and respectful of your time.
Step 1: Quick Fit Snapshot
A short, self-completed 15-minute step before we meet. You’ll answer a few quick questions so we can better understand your background, working style, and what you are looking for next. It is simple, straightforward, and gives you a chance to share more than what fits on a resume.
Step 2: Mutual Vibe Check
A casual conversation with our SEO Director to talk through the role, expectations, team culture, and what you are looking for next. This is also your chance to ask questions and make sure the opportunity feels right for you.
Step 3: SEO + Client Strategy Conversation
A more role-specific conversation around how you think through SEO priorities, client strategy, communication, and business impact. No trick questions — just a practical discussion about the kind of work you would actually be doing here.
Step 4: Paid Project Test
A realistic project assignment related to the role, with compensation for your time. The goal is not to create busywork — it is to give both sides a clearer sense of how you approach the work in practice.
Step 5: Project Presentation + Final Q&A
A final conversation where you walk us through your project, talk through your thinking, and ask any remaining questions. By this point, the goal is clarity on both sides — not dragging out the process.
Final Note
We are not looking for someone to simply fill a seat.
We are looking for someone who wants to help build something meaningful, grow alongside an ambitious boutique agency, and do career-defining work with people who genuinely care.
