
TMZ is looking for a sharp, SEO-savvy writer who lives and breathes pop culture. You’ll be responsible for creating a mix of real-time, search-driven news content and evergreen articles designed to rank over the long-term. You should be fluent in what’s trending, what people are searching for, and how to turn that into engaging, well-optimized content. This role requires speed, accuracy, and fairness. You’ll be working closely with our SEO Manager and the editorial team (News Director & Coordinating Producer) to produce high-quality, high-impact content and will report to the Executive Producer.
This position requires on-site presence 5 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Write a minimum of 3-5 high-quality SEO articles per day, balancing timely content (celebrity news, trending topics) with evergreen pieces (celebrity bios, relationship timelines, “how they met” stories, etc.)
- Optimize headlines, subheads, and metadata to improve search performance without sacrificing voice or clarity
- Monitor and refresh existing evergreen content as needed to keep it accurate and ranking
- Collaborate with editors, social, and audience teams to maximize reach
Requirements
- At least 2 to 4 years writing SEO content for a media publication, with experience in entertainment and/or pop culture news
- Demonstrated understanding of SEO best practices, including keyword usage, headline optimization, and internal linking
- Passion for pop culture, celebrity news, TV/film, and internet trends
- Ability to write quickly, cleanly, and with personality under tight deadlines
- Familiarity with Google Trends, analytics, and CMS platforms
Nice to Have
- Experience writing evergreen content that ranks for universal search
- Familiarity with analytics platforms like Google Search Console
- Editorial experience with content calendars and long-term planning

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $75,000.00-95,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
