About the role:

Reporting to the Deputy Editor, the Taste of Home Senior Editor is responsible for editing new and refreshed recipes, articles and listicles to drive organic traffic and increase visibility of our digital content. With a deep understanding of search engine optimization and strong editing and management chops, the Senior Editor understands the importance of producing and updating stories that serve the Taste of Home audience while also delivering against TMB’s traffic and revenue goals.

About you:

First and foremost, you are a strong editor and passionate about food journalism: a pro at shaping quality content that inspires readers in the kitchen, whether they’ve been cooking for decades or are just learning how to boil water. You have a mastery of grammar and house style, enjoy finding just the right word to convey a thought, and can distill the basic elements of complicated information. You are well-versed in SEO best practices and familiar with SEO tools like Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, Ahrefs and Yoast SEO. You are a food enthusiast with a knowledge of and passion for the culinary space, which shows in every piece you edit. Driven by deadlines and with strong time-management skills, you motivate your team to work through a high volume of stories efficiently, effectively and on time, enabling the Digital Team to meet its ambitious production goals. As a team leader, you are organized, nimble and appreciate the value of giving feedback to help others grow. At home, you love to cook and track what is happening in the food world.

Your day-to-day:

  • Manage the publishing of search-optimized content, working with cross-department stakeholders (culinary, art, production) to ensure that all deadlines are met
  • Lead and mentor your team of writers and editors by sharing brand and industry knowledge, regularly providing feedback and offering support
  • Edit food content according to daily publishing goals, adhering to AP and house style and following web-writing and SEO best practices
  • Identify opportunities to improve content quality through the introduction of elements such as interviews or quotes from culinary subject matter experts, infographics, etc.
  • Train new hires in editorial best practices, tools and content management systems such as WordPress and Airtable; update training guides as needed
  • Tackle assignments with direction from the Deputy Editor and work on multiple initiatives simultaneously, ensuring all deadlines are met

You have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or communications, or a related field
  • 4-6 years of editing and writing experience in media/publishing, including 3 years of direct digital experience
  • 2+ years of management experience with multiple reports (staff or freelance)
  • Experience working for a food website or publication a plus
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in SEO best practices and tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with decisive and direct style; comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • Project management skills, with the ability pivot between tasks, consistently meeting deadlines and catching all the details
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, highly collaborative and a positive change agent
  • Experience with content production and management tools such as WordPress, Skyword, Airtable, Looker, Adobe/Google Analytics, SEMrush and understanding of how to use these tools to drive content decisions
  • Effective problem-solving and multitasking skills, and you can easily juggle multiple projects at the same time and work in a fast-paced environment
