**About PufCreativ**

PufCreativ is an award-winning cannabis marketing agency with nearly a decade of experience building some of the most recognizable brands in the space. From branding and web design to SEO, social media, and retention campaigns, the team serves dispensaries, cultivators, manufacturers, and ancillary businesses across the U.S. and internationally. PufCreativ is a two-time ADCANN Agency of the Year and a 2023 EMJAY Branding and Marketing Agency of the Year.

**About the Role**

PufCreativ is looking for a senior, self-sufficient Lead SEO Strategist to join the SEO team. This is not a generalist role and it is not an entry-level or mid-level role. We need someone who thinks critically, executes cleanly, and does not need to be checked behind. When handed any SEO task, no matter the complexity, you know how to navigate it. Additionally, you should have the experience needed to understand what SEO items will move the needle and which are simply vanity tasks.

The work is technical, the data lives across GA4, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, Semrush, Clarity, ScreamingFrog, PageSpeed Insights, and Google Business Profiles, the clients are cannabis operators, and the bar is high. The bulk of our clients operate on WordPress with Elementor. You should be comfortable navigating a WP backend and can lean on our in-house dev team as well.

You will work with the SEO Director on the most complex problems on the roster and act as a second set of senior hands for the team: reviewing and mentoring the work of our SEO specialists, without formal direct reports.

This role starts as a contractor engagement with the opportunity to grow into a full-time position. Hours will ramp based on capacity and performance. If you are the right person, there is a clear runway here.

**ResponsibilitiesTechnical SEO & Site Health**

- Own end-to-end technical SEO across client accounts: full audits, crawl and log analysis, indexation, site architecture, Core Web Vitals, and the ability to deploy solutions or clearly communicate to our dev team what is needed.
- Build and repair structured data at the entity level: LocalBusiness and Organization schema across single and multi-location operators, including cleaning up conflicting or default plugin output
- Lead SEO through website migrations and rebuilds: redirect mapping, pre- and post-launch validation, and traffic-loss forensics when a launch goes sideways
- Work confidently across mixed tech stacks, including WordPress, Shopify, the occasional obscure CMS, and cannabis-specific ecommerce platforms, each with its own crawl, indexation, and tracking constraints

**Analytics, Attribution & Measurement**

- Diagnose and resolve GA4 data and attribution issues: misattributed channels, cross-domain tracking gaps, duplicate or missing events, and unexplained discrepancies between GA4, GSC, GTM, and third-party tools
- Configure and validate revenue and conversion tracking from ecommerce platforms through the GTM data layer into GA4
- Resolve fast-paced, one-off technical escalations that can span multiple integrated platforms (GA4, GSC, GTM, CMS, ecommerce) where there is no SOP and no playbook: scope the problem, isolate the cause, fix it, and document it
- Maintain and audit measurement infrastructure across accounts: GTM container hygiene, GA4 property configuration, GSC coverage, and GBP data consistency

**Data Analysis & Client Strategy**

- Analyze GA4, GSC, and Semrush data to identify trends and anomalies, hypothesize root causes (algorithm updates, tracking breaks, seasonality, SERP feature shifts, competitive movement), and be able to validate or dismiss those hypotheses with data
- Translate technical findings into plain-language narratives that non-SEO savvy clients understand and can act on
- Reconcile third-party estimates against real performance data and defend the accurate story when tools like Semrush disagree with GA4 and GSC

**Search Evolution & AI Visibility**

- Help shape AI search visibility strategy: crawler management (training vs. live-retrieval bots), robots.txt strategy, and structured data that positions clients for AI citation based on Google and LLM documentation, not hearsay and rumors.
- Evaluate emerging tools and tactics critically, separating what actually moves the needle from marketing bloat

**Team Collaboration & Mentorship**

- Review technical work from SEO specialists and raise the team's bar through feedback and mentorship (no direct reports)
- Strengthen internal documentation and SOPs, especially where complex cross-platform processes are undocumented
- Communicate clearly and proactively: flag capacity issues, ask questions, and surface solutions

**What You Bring**

- 5+ years of hands-on SEO experience in a fast-paced agency environment or in-house with a large-scale brand, with demonstrable results
- Deep, diagnostic-level fluency across GA4, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, Semrush, and Google Business Profile. You do not just navigate these platforms, you troubleshoot them
- Proven experience debugging GA4 attribution and configuring ecommerce revenue tracking through GTM: data layer events, tag/trigger/variable architecture, and cross-domain measurement
- Technical SEO depth: audits, schema and entity optimization, Core Web Vitals, migrations, and crawl budget analysis
- An analyst's instinct: you see a trend and immediately start forming hypotheses about what is driving it, then know how to prove or disprove them
- The ability to explain complex technical findings to non-technical clients
- Comfort with ambiguity: handed a problem you have never seen before, sometimes spanning platforms that were never designed to talk to each other, you work it to resolution
- You use AI as a tool, not a crutch. The strategic thinking is yours
- Cannabis industry experience is a plus; comfort in a regulated, fast-moving space is a must

**What We Are Not Looking For**

We have a team of in-house SEO specialists who execute well. What we do not have is a second set of senior hands: someone who can take a vague, complex problem (a revenue tracking break between an ecommerce platform and GA4, a traffic drop no one can explain, a migration going sideways) and own it to resolution without direction. If your experience is mostly executing from checklists, reading dashboards rather than diagnosing them, or producing AI-assisted output without the strategic thinking behind it, this is not the right fit.

**Compensation & Structure**

- Classification Independent Contractor (1099); temp-to-perm pathway
- Hours Part-time to start; ramp based on capacity and fit
