The Basics:
- Growth Plays is hiring for a Director of SEO based in the US to support and project manage all ongoing customer engagements.
- This role is ideal for a well rounded and experienced people manager with deep expertise in agency services, SEO, and project management.
- You will report directly to the CEO and manage several direct reports.
- You will work closely with your team to refine processes and ensure that all deliverables and ad hoc requests are assigned to the relevant stakeholders, sent on time, and to specification.
- Salary range: $105-140K base per year DOE, plus home internet, coworking space, necessary office equipment, FSA/HSA, and end of year bonus.
- 80 dollar a month stipend for home office coffee and snacks.
- Full time role, with health, vision + dental benefits (where 90% is covered by us)
- Matching 401K (after 6 months, up to 4%)
- 3 weeks PTO
- That’s 15 days vacation of your choosing, and then we shut down fully the last week of the year.
Your Background & Skill Set:
- You are an experienced agency-side SEO professional with a proven track record for managing teams.
- Agency and/or professional services experience is required – but in house experience is a plus.
- You have a track record for growing teams and revenue while fostering a positive culture and maintaining high team member retention.
- You have experience in B2B SEO, particularly in SaaS/tech.
- You are deadline-conscious, proactive, and able to communicate effectively with team members on all things SEO – technical and content.
- You have strong project and time management skills. You are organized and love to create, document, and maintain process.
- You can speak “SEO” but can also speak to non-technical stakeholders.
- You can identify and diagnose straightforward technical issues and explain why and how to remedy the issue:
- i.e. dealing with broken links, XML sitemap issues, broken images, page load speed problems, redirect chains, poor internal linking, low CTR due to suboptimal meta data, duplicate content, indexation issues, etc. is a breeze for you, this is your zone of excellence.
- Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to draft and edit clear and concise emails and strategy documents, and to shoot async videos (via Loom) to walk customers through issues and solutions.
- You love to educate team members and help them up skill. You view feedback as a gift and give that gift to your team continuously.
- Notion experience is a major plus. We run on it.
The Role:
- You will be a member of the executive team, and be in lock step with the CEO, Director of Accounts and Editorial and Technical Leads. You will be in charge of all things “hard skills” and are ultimately responsible for all work production (e.g. major deliverables and the processes used to create those deliverables).
- You will be working with the technical and editorial teams to take stock of what’s working and what’s not today, alter anything that’s needed to set a solid foundation (i.e. improve our processes and deliverables, and formalize our onboarding and ongoing training) and get us in a position to double headcount over the next year.
- You will identify gaps in both our overall offering and with specific deliverables as they exist today and put together the processes and training to help the team fill those gaps.
- You will run regular 1:1s with your direct reports and help build a clear career path for them so they can grow with the company.
- You will be aware of all internal bottlenecks and proactively surface issues that will hold back on time delivery of customer work.
- You will foster a positive work culture where team members can learn, take risks, and grow.
- You will be responsible with helping us get more efficient by reducing cycle time for major deliverables.
- You will be reviewing, editing, and revising all major deliverables. Your goal is to pull the CEO out of the day-to-day as much as possible.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience in people management at an agency, preferably at an agency that supports B2B software companies.
- In-depth knowledge of SEO best practices, including technical SEO, on-page optimization, content strategy, and analytics/tag management.
- Looker Studio experience is a must. Tag Manager experience is a serious plus. Spreadsheets are in your DNA.
- Spreadsheets and kanban boards are in your DNA.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong team relationships. You should have a track record of building teams. Past team members loved working with you.

- You are comfortable using Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, ClearScope (or other topic tools), Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and Looker Data Studio.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple team members and their projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.
- You instinctively work on the most important and high impact tasks at all times.
- Proven track record of growing teams in a remote environment.
- You are engaged in the SEO space and stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and innovations.
